IOC December 2017 Newsletter

Tis’ the Season of Serenity

The darkest day is drawing near and the holidays are in full swing.  Days are short and busy and every weekend is there are umpteen different events you could go to around the city.  While this time of year is often spent among family and friends, it can also be a time of sorrow and loneliness.  During these long dark nights, it is important to remember to what we can control, what we do have power over.
While we may not all be religious, we are all human.  The breadth of human experience can fill our hearts with joy and at the same time, can strip us to our very core.  Whether you are spiritual, religious, agnostic, atheist, we invite you to remember the Serenity Prayer.  Replace the word “God” with whatever suits you, but take a moment to say it to yourself.  Use to remind yourself of the light that lives in each of us.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

This December issue looks at ways in which we can take care of ourselves, a heartfelt letter to the choir from a wise elder at Pacifica Calaroga, Jerry Atkin, and ways in which we can connect with each other and the larger community.

We hope you have a very merry holiday season.  Be good to yourself!
